Farsley Celtic are facing the boot from Blue Square North
THE Conference football league has thrown the future of Farsley Celtic back into doubt – via e-mail.
Farsley, who avoided a winding up order in the High Court in London on Wednesday with just hours to spare after brewery Coors called in the administrators, now face having nowhere to play next season even if the club should survive.
The Celts say they got an e-mail from the Conference last night informing them they couldn't play in its North division next season.
They have 14 days to appeal and should the Football Association uphold the ruling they are unlikely to find a place in an alternative league with the constitutions for 2009-10 already decided.
The only hope for Farsley now is that the FA refuses to sanction the Conference's move which the league tried and failed to implement on Northwich Victoria at the end of last season.
A statement from Farsley read: "A brief 145 word e-mail has thrown the future of Farsley Celtic FC back into doubt today after the club was saved from liquidation by the appointment of Administrators this week.
"The Football Conference Limited wrote to the club informing them that in accordance with the controversial "Appendix E" of the Rules of the Football Conference 'Farsley Celtic is not eligible for membership of the competition for the forthcoming season'."
Appeal
Appendix E states: In the event of a club suffering an Insolvency event after the annual general meeting of the company and prior to the start of the new season, then the club will cease to be eligible for membership of the competition for the new season and the club will be relegated from the competition to a level within the National League system as may be decided upon by the Football Asscociation.
It was controversially applied to fellow-Blue Square North club Northwich Victoria, who entered administration at the end of last season, only to be overturned upon appeal by the FA in June.
Northwich, who spent thousands of pounds on their appeal, will now start next season with a 10-point deduction, in accordance with FA rules.
Official Farsley club spokesman Philip Morris said: " It is of concern to us that the Football Conference has taken this decision, despite the recent decision of the Football Association in the case of Northwich, and with no apparent change in the rules.
"It seems to be completely disregarding the precedent that has been set.
"We shall be immediately launching an appeal, and beginning a fund to raise sufficient money to pay the fees to do so.
"If the FA upholds the Conference's decision, with the fixtures arranged for next season throughout the non-league pyramid Farsley Celtic basically will have no league in which to play."
