Copley hits nine as Halton cruise to top
STEPHEN COPLEY was on cloud nine after firing home a stunning triple hat-trick as Red Triangle League Hainsworth Premier Division aces Halton Moor took over at the summit after an 18-0 avalanche against Merlins.
Joining in the feast were Michael Nelson, who grabbed a treble, Shane Graham (2), Julian Seeley (2), Tim Waldock and Ian Stead.
John McAndrew struck twice in East Leeds' healthy 6-2 victory over Dewsbury Road Social, for whom Graham Stockdale also bagged a brace.
Colin Lawn netted two for Seacroft WMC, but it failed to yield maximum points as they drew 2-2 with Kippax Welfare.
Second-placed Gate's aspirations took a knock as they lost out 7-2 at fourth-placed Wyebeck Arms, for whom Neil Myland and Danny Petty both notched trebles.
In the first round of the Metcalfe Sports Challenge Cup, Skinners Arms demolished Middleton Park 9-0. Chief tormentors were Patrick Davis and Andrew Jackson, who blasted trebles, and Trevor Birtley (2).
Lee McKenzie was the hat-trick hero for Leodis, who saw off Leeds Ventura 4-2, while another treble tonic was provided by James Froggett, who hit three in Amaranth's 6-2 cruise against Churwell New Inn. Robert Holt added a brace.
In the Jackson Trophies Division, leaders Farnley Sports dropped points for the first time this term, drawing 3-3 with Squinting Cat. Nearest rivals Super Eagles failed to cash in as they surprisingly lost 4-2 at New Farnley CC, Adam Crossley and Alan Moss netting doubles.
An own goal enabled Cricketers Arms to edge Dynamo Turbot 1-0, and Drighlington Adwalton won by the same margin against Bainbridge United.
