Yorkshire Amateur League: Morley serve up something to savour as rivals falter

Morley Town AFC enhanced their title credentials as they were the only Division One side to taste victory with a 4-2 win over Huddersfield Amateur Reserves.

Ryan Hartley hit a brace with Matt Ibbotson and Jon Wilmshurst also getting on the scoresheet as Morley moved two points clear at the top.

FC Tadcaster lost 3-2 against Sandal Wanderers as they face an uphill battle to retain their Division One status. Mike Brennan put Wanderers ahead but Stephen Grimes and Fidelis Mhlolo soon put Tadcaster ahead, Wanderers won the game through Karl Abbott and Brennan’s second.

Beeston St Anthony’s slipped up against Leeds Independent as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Ben Greenwood netted for Beeston in the first half but Dale Howland equalised for Independent from the spot.

Fourth-placed Garforth Rangers also slipped up as they were held to a 2-2 draw against bottom of the table Old Collegians. Rangers went 2-0 up but Jordan McMinn and Adam Bence hit back for Collegians.

St Nicholas could have closed the gap to second but failed to take advantage as they slipped to a 3-2 loss against Alwoodley FC Reserves.

With second-placed Almondburians out of action, Colton Institute extended their lead at the top of Division Two as they earned a 2-2 draw at Middleton Park. Chris Hicks gave Colton the lead but Craig Naylor struck twice to put Park ahead, Matt Baird ensured the points were shared.

Bottom side Bainbridge earned their second successive victory as they overcame Old Modernians Reserves 3-2 through Razik Ali, Shoaib Mohammed and Asim Hussain strikes. Second bottom Woodhouse Moor Methodists also earned three points as they beat Leeds Medics 4ths 3-1 thanks to Ants Lewis, Steve Lindsay and Phil Turner goals.

The Division Three title race is hotting up as leaders Old Batelians Reserves were held 1-1 at relegation strugglers Calverley United Reserves, Phil Bryant netted for Batelians with Chris Cookson responding for Calverley. With both second and third place out of action, Ealandians Reserves will be somewhat disappointed not to have taken all three points from their 3-3 draw against Middleton Park Reserves.
