Yeadon veterans finally wrapped up the Premier Division title with Thursday evening’s 4-0 at third-bottom Shipley Town, writes DAISY YOUNG.
A double from Scott Firth alongside Darren Nicholls and Paul Butler strikes sealed the win to secure the title with two games remaining.
Thursday’s other game in the Premier Division saw Ilkley Dynamo move up to fourth with a thumping 8-0 win over bottom side Menston Town.
Sunday saw the League Cup semi-finals staged with Keighley Town obliging 4-0 against Shipley Town.
They will play Ilkley Dynamo in the May 10 final after Dynamo saw off Horsforth St Margaret’s 2-0.
Sky Bet bounced back from Thursday night’s County Sunday Trophy loss by sealing the Division One title with a 7-1 romp at Shipley Town Reserves on Sunday.
Andy Bell and Mark Waterhouse bagged doubles, supported by a goal each from Tom Jukes, Mark Denvers and Mike Toney as the bookie boys ended the title hopes of second-placed Salts 2nds. Salts obliged 2-1 at Armley Rangers on Sunday but Sky Bet are home and hosed, also thanks to last Tuesday night’s 7-0 thumping of visiting Otley Tavern -the first of their three games in the space of six days.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Aire Valley moved up to sixth with a 6-3 success at Milford who drop to seventh. Third-bottom Menstone Athletic were awarded an away walkover from their clash at second-bottom Cottingley WMC. On Thursday night, Yeadon Athletic beat visiting Menstone Athletic 3-2 to secure themselves at least a third-place finish. In the other Tuesday night games Menstone Athletic and Aire Valley played out a 2-2 draw while fourth-placed Armley Rangers beat Milford 2-1.
Yeadon were also awarded an away walkover against Cottingley.
