Wakefield Sunday League: Premiership Two League Cup triumph for Horse & Jockey

They overcame Nostell Miners Welfare 5-3 after extra-time, thanks to Ripley’s hat-trick and strikes from Aaron Hurst and Carl Balfe. Nostell side led three times but allowed Horse & Jockey to rein them in each time before succumbing to their experienced foes, who also pipped them for the Premiership Two league title. Nostell netted through Josh Pitts, Darren Rushton and Andy Makin.

Extra-time proved to be drama-packed with the Horse & Jockey taking the lead for the first time in the match and nudging into a 4-3 lead, before Ripley completed his hat-trick to make it 5-3.

Wakefield Athletic B concluded their season with a thumping 9-1 victory over Bar Street and clinched promotion to Championship One next term.

Athletic head the league table with a six-point advantage and they didn’t mess about, almost hitting double figures, but instead they settled for nine. The goals came from a Danny Young hat-trick plus braces from Regan Barry and Kane Whittaker alongside strikes from Kyle Clarke and Kieran Young.

King George extended their lead at the top of the Premiership One table to 14 points with a 5-2 victory over second-placed Hemsworth.

The two sides will face each-other shortly after they both made it through to the final of the Premier One Cup in mid-week. King George beat New Sharlston Welfare 6-4 and Hemsworth beat Wakefield Football Centre 6-3. Woodman Sports Club beat Shepherds Arms 4-0 in the league.

In Premiership Two, Boons beat King George Reserves 7-4 and Netherton thrashed Henry Boons 7-1. Stanley United beat Crofton Colts 4-0 to move into the final of the Presidents Cup, where they will face Ossett Central who beat Hemsworth Miners Welfare 3-0.
