YORKSHIRE Amateur League outfit Mount St Mary’s narrowly failed in their bid to reach consecutive West Riding County FA Challenge Cup semi-finals after a 3-2 loss at Meltham Athletic.

Mary’s trailed 2-0 at the interval but fought back to level matters through goals from Tom Sheridan and Jordan Talbot. But within a minute of drawing level, a defensive lapse gave Meltham a chance to bag what proved the game’s winning goal.

Fellow YAL side Huddersfield YMCA Reserves suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Field Reserves who are looking to reach their second consecutive final.

Wakefield side Real Moor moved through with a 4-2 success at home over Huddersfield Amateur while Wortley’s home clash with Shelf Juniors was postponed; the tie will now take place this weekend. Real Moor await the winners on Wednesday, April 26. Meltham will then play Field on Wednesday, May 3 (both 7.30pm).

The quarter-finals of the flagship West Riding County FA Challenge Cup have already been played and Carlton Athletic will take on Ryburn United in the first semi-final on Wednesday, April 5.

The second semi-final will see Boroughbridge travel to Steeton two weeks later on Wednesday, April 19. In the Leeds & District FA Senior Challenge Cup, Headingley AFC will take on Leeds Medics & Dentists in the last remaining quarter final at Weetwood Playing Fields on Saturday, March 18 (2pm). The winners will face Real Moor in the semi-finals. The other semi-final will be between Beeston St Anthony’s and Robin Hood Athletic, taking place on Thursday, March 23 at Bracken Edge (7.30pm).

In the District Cup, Beeston St Anthony’s Reserves will take on Leeds City Reserves in the final at Bracken Edge on Wednesday, April 12 (7.30pm).
