Leeds City Juniors Under-14s secured the Leeds & District Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Hunslet Juniors Under-14s in a tense final held at Whitkirk Sports Ground.
Leeds took advantage of their first-half dominance when Declan Rose delivered a corner that was flicked on by Charlie Hughes and buried into the roof of the net by Darragh Kennedy.
Hunslet pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half but the strong defence and counter attacking play by Juniors kept them at bay.
Elsewhere, Kirkstall Crusaders Under-14s again stung table-topping Amaranth Juniors Under-14s with a 3-2 home win that threatened to take the title race to the wire. Caleb Masiyiwa bagged a brilliant hat-trick for second-placed Kirkstall who have condemned Amaranth to their only two defeats in almost two seasons.
Kirkstall new boy George Campbell also shone in midfield while solid defensive displays came from Bima Bramana, Jordan Thorne, and Muhaned Ali. Kirkstall captain Barney Mguni was also busy throughout.
Hall Green United Under-12s secured the Division 5B title with a 6-1 demolition of visiting title rivals Gomersal & Cleckheaton Under-12s. Green started briskly with Emily Sykes opening the scoring with a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes. Joshua Topp added a third at the start of the second half with Dovydas Bertulis, Dalton Jackson and Miron Bibaj adding to the score.
Churwell Lions Under-11s put themselves on the brink of landing the Garforth League Division Three title with an 11-1 crushing of visiting Stanningley Albion Blacks Under-11s.
Harvey Kneeshaw and Reegan Mitchell both notched hat-tricks for Churwell who were also helped by braces from Logan Gordon and Kairn Rigby plus a Tyler Fielding strike. Churwell – former club of ex-Leeds United captain Jonny Howson – have now finished their season and must wait to see if second-placed Sherburn White Rose Under-11s can claw back the six point gap from their last two games.
Elsewhere, Kirkstall Crusaders Under-11s fell to a frustrating 3-2 loss at home to high-flying Farsley Celtic Juniors in Division Two of the Garforth League.
Kirkstall fought back from being 2-0 down through goals from Hadley Speight and Jorge de Carvalho but then conceded in the last minute.
Fantastic Kirkstall performances came from Jermaine Ashby on the wing, Billy Baker as sweeper and player of the match Gonzalo Soares.
Kirkstall Crusaders Under-10s travelled to Horsforth St Margaret’s Under-10s for two games and netted in the first encounter through Rohan Tafesse and Matthew James plus an own goal.
Kirkstall’s Sam West and Liam Cade bagged braces in the second clash, supported by a Dylan Leonard effort and superb defensive display from Omar Lamouri.
Hall Green United Under-10s were in League Cup action against Kirkburton Under-10s with Noah Harding threading a ball through for Daniel Myers to finish.
In the second half, a Jack Batley corner was neatly finished again by United player of the match Daniel Myers who then clinched his hat trick.
Kirkstall Crusaders Under-9s enjoyed a trip to local rivals Horsforth Galaxy Under-9s and celebrated a four-goal haul for Harrison Galdas Smith.
Kirkstall’s Peter Simpson added a brace with Mally Clarke also netting as Josh Conway and Rylan Windle shone with Ben Kelly performing heroics in goal.
