The unbeaten sides met in a titanic struggle with both boasting 100 per cent records this season going into Sunday’s clash.

They were also the teams who went head to head for the title last season and, as was the case then, it was Ferrybridge who came out on top again as they won 4-1 to open up a three-point gap at the top of the table.

Their cause was helped when Fryston’s James Dyson was sent-off and with their extra man Progressive were able to find the net four times with Josh Barratt (two), Regan Fish and Brett Smith all on target.

Jamie Simpson scored Fryston’s only goal as they stayed down in third place behind Upton Wrangbrook on goal difference.

Elsewhere in the Premier, Matthew Clayton hit a hat-trick and ended up on the losing side as Pontefract Sports & Social lost 5-4 to George V AFC, who were winning for the first time this season.

Andrew Horbury also netted for Ponte, but they let a 2-1 half-time lead slip.

Previous leaders Pontefract & Castleford United lost top spot when they were held to a 2-2 draw by unbeaten Whitwood Metrostars.

But Lee Clarke and Richie Dunning were on target for Whitwood Metrostars, who were dropping their first points after victories in their first two matches.

After good wins in their previous two games, AFC Basshouse were disappointed to lose 3-1 away to AFC Cutsyke, who had Ash Bedworth (two) and Jordan Hanson on target.

Tom Baker scored Basshouse’s only goal as they remain in fifth, three points behind Cutsyke.
