Chatter over Leeds United’s new arrivals have dominated debate among fans this week.

I’m not wanting to sound pessimistic and I really hope Uwe Rosler can work some magic in this coming season but I’m not as overawed as I thought I would have been by the summer’s transfer activities.

I wasn’t alone in thinking we need to spend £10m on four or five real quality players this summer to get promoted. Perhaps Rosler was wise when he came in and targeted the top 10. Perhaps he was told what would be spent in the summer.

I look at the signings and think back and can only say if I had known who we would be signing back then at the end of the season I would have said they are unlikely to get us promoted. I like Massimo Cellino but admit it was wishful thinking presuming he would splash out on bringing proven quality in. Which is what I think we needed.

Chris Wood I thought was too much. He has never been prolific. Lee Erwin is an unknown prospect at this level. Sol Bamba was badly needed but we are where we are in defence again and we conceded far too many as usual last season. A couple of injuries and loss of form and then what?

Tom Adeyemi I know little about, other than Bradford fans telling me he was great when he was there. But I wanted to see a different kind of player coming into midfield with more experience to help marshal the youngsters.

Having said all that, what we had in player terms when the season ended was still pretty good. None of the youngsters have been sold.

That shows some intent. Rosler will have had a good few months under his belt before the first game. That’s important. The back room team looks impressive and we are all set. For once I honestly have no idea how the season might go or where we will finish, I just hope it’s an improvement on last time and Cellino doesn’t meddle in anything and everything. The core of the team are young and hungry and should play without fear.

Can Rosler take us onwards and upwards? I hope so. I like the guy and his philosophies.

New players are very exciting

I’m still convinced if we won the league most would be moaning. I am very happy with the transfer business done, although we definitely need a winger.

We have signed some very exciting prospects. I can’t remember the last time we did that! Champions League days! This will be an excellent season! WE ARE LEEDS!
