The push for the play-offs and the January transfer window are dominating debate among the Leeds United faithful.

As I see it, we [Leeds United] need the following seven things to get in a play-off position, in order of importance:

1) A quality central defender who can organise the whole defence;

2) A championship regular goalscorer, not Lafferty for me;

3) Keep Bridcutt;

4) Keep Cook;

5) Keep Taylor;

6) Keep Byram;

7) Keep Mowatt.

The top five are essential.

So far, Liam Bridcutt is good, Sam Byram not, but the other six may do it [get Leeds into a play-off position].

However, I will be amazed if our owner gets what is needed to challenge for the play-offs, and I’m expecting the season to peter out as per usual.

If he [Massimo Cellino] proves me wrong, I will certainly be prepared to change my opinion of him.

Grealish set for Championship?

There are rumours of a few Championship clubs, us among them, discussing the possibility of bringing Jack Grealish in from Aston Villa on loan till the end of the season.

The lad’s got talent but by all reports loves to party. Maybe best left alone.

If young Brandon Barker was available on loan, however, he might be a better option.

Play-offs closer than fans think

Bring Kyle Lafferty in [to Elland Road], whether it be on a signed or loan basis.

Looking back at the first half of the season and our position in the table, we are, in my opinion, only two or three players off having a team that is capable of reaching the play-offs.

You could say we are lacking in all areas of the pitch, and it’s true. We are a second division, mid-table team – of course we are lacking the best players.

However, we are nine points off the play-offs.

That’s just three games difference between being in the top six and languishing in 13th.

If we’d had one extra, solid defender and one extra striker, who converts his chances, we’d have had those nine points in the bag by now...

We have a team that is missing just one or two, then we’ll be right up there.

Get Lafferty in and let’s crack on! On On On!
