The transfer window may have only shut on Monday night, but with business running until late there was always going to be some gossip to pour over.

Late approaches and failed moves are the story of the day.

Leeds United were one of four Championship clubs said to have made a move for Hull City striker Sone Aluko. BBC reporter Ian Dennis says that along with Brighton, Fulham and Forest, the Whites made a late bid to try and bring the striker in to Elland Road.

Aluko has scored 11 goals in 81 games for Hull City since joining them from Rangers in 2012. The 26-year-old began his career at Birmingham City before moving to Aberdeen.

Kike could have left Middlesbrough on Monday night to join La Liga side Eibar. However, a €1 million (£760,000) clause in his contract scuppered the move. Sky Sports journalist Guillem Balague revealed that if Kike had made the move, Boro would have had to pay former club Murcia the fee, which put an end to the move.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has criticised Leeds’s transfer policy after the club failed to sign anyone on transfer deadline day. MacAnthony regularly deals with Leeds. Posh striker Marcus Maddison was linked with a switch to Elland Road earlier in the window, but a move failed to materialise.

At the time, MacAnthony said: “Steve Evans is a big fan of Marcus. It’s up to his chairman now to back him.”

However, when asked about Leeds’s dealings on Twitter on Monday evening, he wrote: “Baffling policy to be fair. Should be competing for premier league all day long imo size of club/potential.”
