Luciano Becchio is set to miss tonight’s friendly between Leeds United and Bodmin Town after twisting an ankle in Monday’s win over Tavistock.
The striker limped out of United’s 6-0 victory at Langsford Park and did not take part in yesterday’s open training session.
Becchio, pictured, was hurt by a heavy tackle towards the end of the first half on Monday and hobbled from the field with the assistance of two of United’s medical staff.
Manager Neil Warnock said: “The only niggle from the game was Becchio going over on his ankle.
“It’s not a bad injury but you take the precaution and bring players off when it’s like that.”
Warnock left Becchio out of Leeds’ first friendly at Farsley last Friday due to a minor muscle strain.
But the majority of United’s senior players will be involved tonight and several are likely to make extended appearances after playing for more than an hour at Tavistock.
New signing Luke Varney is due to link up with Leeds in Cornwall after finalising his transfer from Portsmouth but it is not clear whether he will arrive in time to be considered for an appearance this evening.
Warnock declared himself satisfied with Monday’s performance, saying: “It was a good work-out. Most of the players got an hour and some of the younger lads had a taste as well.
“I wanted to see a few of them get through an hour and I wanted to give a few who hadn’t had a game a start too – Becchio, Adam Drury and Robert Snodgrass.
“You can tell that we’re not up to speed yet but that’s what pre-season matches are all about.”
