Leeds United’s pursuit of Ashley Fletcher appears to be over with the Manchester United striker reportedly set to sign for West Ham United.
Leeds have been monitoring Fletcher throughout the summer and were encouraged by his decision to turn down a new deal at Old Trafford last week but West Ham have killed competition for his signature by offering the 20-year-old a four-year contract.
Fletcher is out of contract at Manchester United but the club are entitled to compensation for him on account of his age. He is expected to cost in the region of £500,000.
Several Championship clubs were interested in him and Fletcher initially planned to start pre season at Old Trafford while he weighed up his options but West Ham have forced the issue by stepping in with a substantial proposal.
Fletcher, who finished last season on loan at Barnsley and helped the club win the League One play-off final, is expected to undergo a medical with West Ham later today.
United, however, are continuing to work towards a deal to sign defender Kyle Bartley on a season long loan from Swansea City.
Bartley, 25, is believed to be in Leeds and is hopeful of completing a medical in the next 24 hours.
