Jansson has been capped 13 times by the Swedish national side who sealed a ticket to next year’s World Cup in Russia with a historical 1-0 win over two legs against Italy in their play-offs qualifier.

Jansson was an unused substitute for both legs and Christiansen hopes the 26-year-old will now strongly advertise his claims for the 2018 Sweden international call to board the plane to Russia.

“I think first of all for Pontus it is great news and we all said congratulations to him that he had the possibility to participate,” said Christiansen.

“But he also needs to prove in this team that he has a place in the squad for the national team.

“I hope and expect a good reaction for him.”
