Leeds United swoop for Birmingham City midfielder

Leeds United have signed Birmingham City midfielder Neil Kilkenny on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

United are set to agree a long-term deal with the Australian international next week but have concluded an emergency loan in an attempt to make him available for tomorrow's clash with Northampton Town at Elland Road.

Kilkenny reached the end of a previous loan spell at Oldham Athletic during the Latics' 3-1 victory over Leeds at Elland Road on New Year's Day, and his impressive performance in the centre of midfield convinced Wise to approach Birmingham.

The 22-year-old has become United's second signing of the transfer window, following Finnish winger Sebastian Sorsa into Elland Road.

Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, who has signed a new four year contract with the club.
