LEEDS UNITED centre-half Liam Cooper has been named in the SkyBet Football League Team of the Week

The former Chesterfield and Hull City defender was rewarded for his impressive weekend display against Blackpool, when he produced a dominant performance in the heart of the back four alongside home captain Jason Pearce.

His afternoon was crowned by his first goal for the club on nine minutes when he fired in a sweet half-volley to put United on their way to a 3-1 success.

Cooper was joined by fellow Championship defenders Nikolay Bodurov (Fulham) and Andre Bikey (Charlton) in the select weekly line-up.

Cooper’s recognition was the first time since September 22 that a United player has been named in the team of the week.

Prior to Cooper, the last United player to be bestowed with the accolade was Giuseppe Bellusci, who was recognised for a stand-out week in September.

Bellusci hit the bar with a fine chip in the 3-0 derby win over Huddersfield Town on September 20, with compatriot Mirco Antenucci following up to fire in the rebound en route to the comfortable win.

Four days earlier, Bellusci had netted his first goal for the club in a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth with a well-struck free-kick.
