Neil Redfearn hopes Lewis Cook will return to full fitness quickly after scans revealed that the Leeds United midfielder has avoided serious injury.

Cook is set to miss tomorrow’s game at home to Blackburn Rovers with ankle ligament damage but the 18-year-old does not need surgery and is unlikely to be absent for a lengthy period.

United’s talented academy product was hurt during an appearance for England’s Under-19s in France last weekend and two scans confirmed the extent of the damage.

Head coach Redfearn said: “It’s ankle ligaments but he’s strained them.

“Lewis seems to think it’s a lot easier than it was, which he would do because the kid wants to play. We’ve had it scanned and the scan shows a strain but not a serious strain.”
