Alex Mowatt has missed out on the Championship’s player-of-the-month award for November.

The Leeds United midfielder was beaten to the prize by Brentford’s Andre Gray who scored five times in as many games last month.

Mowatt’s inclusion in the November shortlist was his first nomination since his first-team debut at Elland Road and it came on the back of a surge of form from the 19-year-old.

Mowatt scored three times in November and laid on two assists as Leeds took seven points from five matches under new head coach Neil Redfearn.

Birmingham goalkeeper Darren Randolph and Blackburn striker Rudy Gestede also featured on the shortlist for November but Gray received the Football League’s award after helping Brentford to climb to third in the Championship table.

Despite the disappointment, Mowatt said: “I’m playing with confidence and when you play with confidence you’ll always play better and try more things.

“I feel a lot stronger and a lot fitter as well.”
