Leeds have steadily climbed the Championship table under head coach Garry Monk with Saturday’s 3-2 success at Norwich City putting United in the division’s top six for the first time since December 2013.

Stern tests await after the international break – with Leeds playing three of the division’s top four in their next five league games – but Whites centre-back Jansson has urged his United team-mates to fully believe that Leeds belong in the division’s top six.

Leeds will welcome leaders Newcastle United to Elland Road in their first game after the current international break on Sunday, November 20 – and Monk’s men will approach the fixture having taken 22 points out of their last possible 30. Only Newcastle and second-placed Brighton have gained more points from their last ten games.

“I think that we have to keep believing in ourselves,” said Jansson.

“Maybe people outside are thinking that Leeds is not a team for the play-offs but I don’t think like that and I hope that the other guys and the staff also think that – we are a team for the play-offs and a team for going up to the Premier League.

“If we keep believing in what we are doing then I think it’s going to be great. But now we have to focus on Newcastle and then the game after Newcastle. We take it one game at a time.”
