Leeds United will be watching on with interest this weekend as their Championship promotion rivals take to the pitch before Monday’s trip to Middlesbrough. Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers saw a chance to go top wasted and it remains incredibly tight going into the final three games of the season.

With Leeds once again picked for live television broadcast and kick-off at Boro pushed back to Monday evening, this week presents a rare chance to fully rest up and recover ahead of the home straight. In the meantime, the YEP has rounded up some of the latest stories coming out of Elland Road.

Wober U-turn

Leeds could be forced to send Max Wober out on loan again if they fail to achieve promotion back into the Premier League. Football Insider reports that another year in the Championship could see the Austrian defender leave temporarily again.

Wober was one of several players to force a loan exit due to a release clause that became active upon relegation last year, joining German side Borussia Monchengladbach. Leeds are thought to be open to selling the 26-year-old in the summer but may not get their wish.

It is unclear whether the loan clauses, of which similar were activated by Marc Roca, Robin Koch, Luis Sinisterra and Rasmus Kristensen, will remain eligible if Leeds were to spend another season in the Championship. The club announced an annual loss of £33.7m last week and so will likely want to raise money through some player sales.

Spence future

Leeds loan flop Djed Spence is expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis in the summer, following his half-season loan spell at Genoa. Football Insider reports that the right-back several senior players set to move on as part of a wider clearout at the north London club.

Spence joined Leeds on loan last summer and his arrival was seen as a major coup for Farke’s side, but injury issues and a lack of regular football saw his spell in West Yorkshire cut short in January. The 23-year-old moved to Serie A outfit Genoa that same month but has only made five league starts since.

Regardless of whether Genoa want to make the loan permanent, Spence looks set to leave Tottenham this summer. It is unclear where the former Middlesbrough man might end up.
