Sam Byram will travel with Leeds United to Slovenia next week to work on the hip injury which is set to rule him out of Saturday’s friendly against Farsley.
The England Under-20 right-back is likely to be missing from the large squad used by manager Brian McDermott at Throstle Nest but Leeds will take him on their three-game tour of Slovenia with the aim of completing his rehabilitation by the middle of the month.
Byram has been nursing a problem which he suffered towards the end of last season and aggravated shortly before he was due to travel with England to the Under-20 World Cup.
McDermott said: “We’re taking him to Slovenia. We’ll work with him there and see how he is at the back-end of the trip.”
El-Hadji Diouf is carrying a slight knock and might also miss Saturday’s game but new signings Matt Smith, Luke Murphy and Noel Hunt are all expected to be used in Leeds’ first summer friendly at Farsley.
McDermott said: “What we’ll do tomorrow is pick a couple of teams and play 45 minutes each.
“Luke Murphy may play for a little bit and I’ll have a look at Noel and see how he feels. He might play 45.”
