Sam Byram made a rare appearance for United’s Under-21s in a 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest yesterday.
The right-back, who is at the centre of a long-standing contractual dispute with Leeds, was given a run-out after a series of first-team games on the bench.
Byram has not started for Leeds United since their 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers last month.
Head coach Steve Evans has included him as a substitute but the Leeds boss warned last week that Byram could not be central to his plans unless he agreed to extend a deal which expires at the end of this season.
Two second-half goals gave Forest’s development squad victory in Nottingham. United centre-back Jake Skelton was shown a red card late on.
Academy boss Paul Hart said: "He did alright. All the players that are coming down need that time on the pitch. It's beneficial for him."
United: Peacock-Farrell, Byram, Vann, Skelton, Denton, Coyle, Purver, Stokes, Mulhern, Erwin, Doukara (McDaid 79).
