Leeds United: Brilliant victory over Norwich up there with the best under Monk, says Noel Whelan

We knew that it was going to be a test but I think we got what we deserved throughout the whole 90 minutes of this game.

I thought Leeds were really positive in the first 20 minutes and we created chance after chance without actually putting one in the back of the net.

We played some fantastic football but this was a win that wasn’t just down to XI, it was a team performance.

You are always walking that tightrope when you create the chances that we did and don’t put one of them away when you are away from home against a good Norwich side.

But we saw the good and bad of Norwich and at times I thought they were very ordinary.

Going forward they could be very dangerous but at the back you can see where the frailties lie.

They are very soft at the back, they have an un-confident back four and we capitalised on that but take nothing away from us as I thought we were exceptional.

That is definitely up there with the best I have seen at Leeds under Garry Monk. It was a good day for the club and a good day for Garry and the staff.

They have worked hard, they have had a week to prepare for this and you can see the preparations have paid off.

But what we are seeing is that not only the XI out there producing the goods, the players on the bench are also coming on and making a difference and contributing to the game, like Ronny Vieira with his brilliant winner.

Pontus Jansson obviously scored his first goal and he is great for Leeds.

And that’s not only as a player but as a person and an ambassador for the club in the White shirt.

He’s everything that epitomises Leeds – fire in the belly, quality, passion and you saw that with his goal and how much it meant it to him and how he celebrated with the fans as well.

We are one big family here and it feels like everyone is pulling together.

It’s massively important that we nail down Jansson on a permanent deal but it’s also imperative that we think about Kyle Bartley as well because he is part of this.

They come as a partnership, they work well together, they are solid, they enjoy playing together at the moment and we are seeing the benefits of having a very, very good two at the back that complement each other in many ways.

It’s great to see that people are playing with a smile on their face and that the belief throughout that squad is very exciting. Garry has done a fantastic job.

Chris Wood was on the scoresheet again and we always knew that he was a 20 goals a season player. It’s just that it’s now coming good for him.

We’ve got the right players in the right positions, we’ve got a team that can compete and we’ve got a team that can probably beat anybody on their day to be honest.

At the moment they are in a good place and this has got to give them the belief that they can go and do something very special this season.

It’s all about keeping that momentum going and keeping that winning mentality and that togetherness that we have got about the team at the moment and everyone pulling in the right direction.

We are going to have some weeks where it doesn’t go for us but it’s important that we bounce back very quickly from that and I think we have got the characters in those changing rooms to be able to do that.

Right now, we are enjoying a good spell and long may it continue.
