On-loan Tommaso Bianchi made a dismal debut for Ascoli on Saturday - ending in a red card and a 3-0 defeat to Cesena.

The midfielder’s bow went badly wrong as two early bookings led to his dismissal after just 25 minutes.

Bianchi - signed by Ascoli on loan from Leeds United last week with a view to a permanent move in the summer - was shown his first yellow card for dissent following the award of a penalty to Cesena and incurred a second caution for a cynical foul soon after.

He was one of two Ascoli players sent off during a fractious Serie B fixture which saw the club’s sporting director, Francesco Marroccu, ordered to the stands.

Ascoli have been fined more than £15,000 by the Italian football association over crowd disturbances at the game.

Italian media reported that two smoke bombs were thrown by Ascoli fans into areas of the ground holding Cesena supporters.
