The right-back is facing a four-week recovery period with minor ankle ligament damage, ruling him out of Saturday’s game against Charlton Athletic and next weekend’s visit to Preston North End.

Berardi was stretchered off in the second half of Leeds’ 2-2 draw at Hull City after a foul by Jake Livermore.

A series of X-rays and scans revealed no serious problems and United’s medical team expect Berardi to recover before the end of next month.

The former Sampdoria player was forced to miss two months of this season after tearing a ligament in the same ankle shortly before Christmas.
