Rob Green

His kicking was suspect and his mistake for the first goal left no hiding place. Gave Dwight Gayle the easiest goal he’ll ever score. 4/10

Luke Ayling

Another decent showing from Ayling against a side with plenty of attacking clout. Lively at both ends of the field. 7/10

Kyle Bartley

A rare day when United’s defence was made to bend, although the error leading to the first goal wasted a long spell of resistance. 6/10

Pontus Jansson

Probably the first time that Jansson has been made to feel uncomfortable and that says much about the performance of Gayle. 6/10

Charlie Taylor

One of the reasons why Leeds were able to find a way back into the contest after the half-hour. Worked tirelessly on the left. 6/10

Ronaldo Vieira

Given a lesson by Jack Colback and Jonjo Shelvey but was still able to make them uncomfortable in short periods. 5/10

Eunan O’Kane

Chased shadows for half-an-hour but was so close to equalising and imposed himself after a very tough start. 6/10

Souleymane Doukara

No shortage of effort from Doukara but the simple fact was that Monk’s forward line didn’t see enough of the ball to thrive. 5/10

Kalvin Phillips

One to forget for a player who’s done well recently. Took on the set-pieces with Pablo Hernandez missing but his accuracy with them was extremely poor. 5/10

Kemar Roofe

Looked good in flashes but never really got into the contest. You sense with Roofe that his best position lies elsewhere. 5/10

Chris Wood

Newcastle’s defending is as good as its reputation suggests and it was never going to be easy for Wood to make an impact. The service to him made it impossible. 5/10

Substitutes:

Hadi Sacko (for Vieira, 63) - Newcastle seemed well prepared for him and dealt with his pace far better than other teams. 5/10

Marcus Antonsson (for Doukara, 78) - Saw a very brief chance of a goal late on but a hanging cross slipped over his head. 5/10

Subs (not used): Marco Silvestri, Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi, Matt Grimes, Stuart Dallas.
