Leeds United will play Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The draw is Leeds’ reward for victories over Fleetwood Town in the first round, and Luton Town in the second round on Tuesday night.

Leeds will host Blackburn at Elland Road during the week beginning September 19.

A fine goal from debutant left-back Tyler Denton saw Leeds through a closely-fought tie at Kenilworth Road, following on from a penalty shoot-out win against Fleetwood Town in round one.

Leeds are bidding to reach the fourth round of the League Cup for the first time since 2012 when Neil Warnock took the club to the last eight and a quarter-final defeat to Chelsea.

Speaking after the win over Luton, United head coach Garry Monk said he had no preference of opposition in round three - and immediately turned his attention to Saturday’s Championship game away at Nottingham Forest.

“I’m not bothered, I don’t really care,” Monk said. “I haven’t thought about it and I’m just focused now on Saturday and Forest, trying to go into the international break with this momentum and good form.”

The draw for the third round of the EFL Cup is:

Nottingham Forest v Arsenal

Leeds v Blackburn

QPR v Sunderland

West Ham v Accrington

Southampton v Crystal Palace

Swansea v Man City

Fulham v Bristol City

Bournemouth v Preston

Tottenham v Gillingham

Everton v Norwich

Derby v Liverpool

Northampton v Manchester United

Brighton v Reading

Newcastle v Wolves

Stoke v Hull

Leicester v Chelsea

Ties to be played w/c September 19
