SOULEYMANE DOUKARA has signed a two-year deal with Turkish side Osmanlispor after agreeing to terminate the final year of his contract at Leeds United.

Doukara parted company with Leeds having been left out of last night’s Carabao Cup victory over Newport County and finalised a move to Turkey today after three seasons at Elland Road.

The striker has entered the last 12 months of his deal with United and was on the fringes of head coach Thomas Christiansen’s plans.

Christiansen used Doukara sporadically in pre-season and omitted him from the club’s opening four league games.

The United boss planned to use the French forward against Newport amid a growing injury list at Elland Road but Doukara missed the game due to what Christiansen described as “an agreement before”.

Doukara’s time at Leeds saw him scored 18 goals in 93 appearances for the club, including one stunning volley against Nottingham Forest last season, but his career in England was marred by moments of controversy.

He served an eight-match ban for biting defender Fernando Amorebieta during a 1-1 draw against Fulham in February 2016 and was part of the group of six foreign players who pulled out injured at short notice before a game at Charlton Athletic in April 2015.

United are understood to have been frustrated with Doukara’s attitude in recent weeks and agreed to sever his deal to allow him to find another club.

Doukara joined Leeds from Catania in the summer of 2014, signing a three-year deal.

He earned a 12-month extension to that contract after activating an appearance-related clause in 2015.
