YEP writer Phil Hay provides his Leeds United player ratings on the back of the 1-0 defeat against Derby County at the iPro stadium. Do you agree with his choices?

Rob Green

Russell’s shot struck him before flying into the net but it was hit with some force and United’s defence were caught napping. 6/10

Luke Ayling

Under the cosh throughout the first half but did a decent job on Anya who, for all the possession he had, didn’t create much. 7/10

Pontus Jansson

Not quite as assured as previous performances but considering the weight of early possession in Derby’s favour, he coped well. 7/10

Kyle Bartley

Okay, he should have scored. But he was everywhere, winning challenges at the back and threatening up front. 8/10

Charlie Taylor

The left-hand side of United’s team did nothing in the first half but Taylor was a virtual winger in the second. 5/10

Eunan O’Kane

Came into his own in the last half-hour, dictating play and denying Vydra a near-certain goal with a late interception. 6/10

Kalvin Phillips

Came up second best against Will Hughes and others, and Leeds only dominated when Derby decided to sit on their lead. 5/10

Hadi Sacko

Never got going and was never really given the chance to test Derby’s left-back, Max Lowe. Substituted early. 4/10

Pablo Hernandez

Never at the top of his game but was still the focal point of many Leeds’ attacks and kept United going. 5/10

Alex Mowatt

The ‘Mowatt on the left wing’ experiment has surely run its course. Offered very little in that role again. 4/10

Chris Wood

Left alone up front and with the exception of a single header in the first half, decent ball barely came his way. 5/10

Substitutes:

Kemar Roofe (for Sacko, 59) - Busy enough and caused problems but didn’t look like making the difference. 5/10

Matt Grimes (for Mowatt, 80) - Very involved but his shots and corners were lacking in quality. 5/10

Marcus Antonsson (for Wood, 83) - So unlucky to strike the post at the death. Might have come on earlier. 6/10

Subs (not used): Marco Silvestri, Lewie Coyle, Liam Cooper, Ronaldo Vieira.

Referee: Tony Harrington (Cleveland) - Aggravated both sets of fans and got some easy decisions wrong. 5/10

Attendance: 31,170

Derby County:

Scott Carson - 6

Cyrus Christie - 7

Richard Keogh - 8

Alex Pearce - 7

Max Lowe - 7

Bradley Johnson - 7

Jacob Butterfield - 7

Substitutes:

Johnny Russell (for Anya, 52) - 7

Craig Bryson (for Butterfield, 75) - 5

Chris Baird (for Hughes, 84) - 6

Gary McSheffrey celebrates his goal in the 2-1 defeat to Walsall. It was his only goal in a 10-match loan spell from Birmingham City, though he did help Leeds gain promotion that year.
