CAPTAIN Liam Bridcutt has failed in his race against time to be fit for Leeds United’s Championship clash at Cardiff City today, kicking off at 12.30pm and live on Sky.
Bridcutt limped off early in the second half of Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers with a foot injury and has failed to make United’s match day 18 against Cardiff.
Ronaldo Vieira starts in his place - preferred to Kalvin Phillips - with Whites head coach Garry Monk also recalling Chris Wood upfront in place of Marcus Antonsson who drops to the bench.
Centre-back Kyle Bartley, on loan from Cardiff’s bitter rivals Swansea City, will captain Leeds in Bridcutt’s absence, partnering Pontus Jansson at the heart of the Whites defence.
Leeds are otherwise unchanged with Monk set to use the same 4-2-3-1 formation that battled to victory against Blackburn.
Pablo Hernandez keeps his place in the side, preferred to Antonsson, and he will play the no 10 role just behind Wood.
Vieira and Eunan O’Kane will play in central midfield, with Stuart Dallas keeping his place on the left wing and Hadi Sacko again on the opposite flank.
Luke Ayling keeps his place at right back with Charlie Taylor at left back and Rob Green in goal.
Kemar Roofe returns from a calf injury to be named among the substitutes but there is no place on the bench for Souleymane Doukara.
Leeds United team v Cardiff: Green, Ayling, Jansson, Bartley, Taylor, Vieira, O’Kane, Hernandez, Dallas, Sacko, Wood. Subs: Silvestri, Coyle, Cooper, Phillips, Mowatt, Roofe, Antonsson.
