New signings Brian Montenegro and Dario Del Fabro are likely to see their Leeds United debuts delayed again this weekend amid a protracted wait for international clearance.
Leeds are still to receive all the paperwork needed to clear the pair for competitive appearances almost two weeks after finalising deals to bring them to Elland Road. Del Fabro was signed on a season-long loan from Cagliari 24 hours before the transfer deadline and Montenegro arrived on a temporary basis from Nacional in Paraguay shortly before the FIFA window closed on September 1. Both have trained with Leeds for the past two weeks but were prevented from featuring in an Under-21 fixture against Ipswich and are running out of time to secure places in the squad for tomorrow’s Championship clash with Birmingham City. Caretaker boss Neil Redfearn said: “It’s due to come through (yesterday) or today but they’re young guys and it’s maybe important they look to get a game before coming into the picture.
“There’s an Under-21 game on Monday and, ideally, I’d like to get them involved in that.”
