Latest Yorkshire football transfer gossip: Kone to Hull City? Steele to Huddersfield Town?

HULL CITY are toying with the prospect of entering the bidding to sign in-demand Wigan Athletic forward Arouna Kone.

The Ivory Coast international is expected to leave the Latics following their relegation to the Championship, with the likes of Swansea, Everton and Liverpool having also been linked.

The 29-year-old is thought to have a £6.5m release clause into his DW Stadium deal, although it is widely expected than an offer of around £5m would prove enough for the managerless Latics to cash in on the player.

Kone is believed to be on wages of around £35,000 per week and any move from Hull would represent a sizeable shift regarding their wage policy.

Burnley frontman Charlie Austin, who blasted 28 goals in a goal-laden campaign from Clarets, is another player thought to be another big summer target for Steve Bruce, keen to bolster his striking ranks for the new season.

Huddersfield Town have been reportedly linked with a move for Barnsley skipper Luke Steele, with the 28-year-old set to leave Oakwell at the end of his contract later this June, having only been offered a new 12-month deal.

Reds boss David Flitcroft said that Steele’s age meant that he could not justify offering him a longer contract.

Released Doncaster Rovers midfielder Martin Woods has been offered the chance to link up for pre-season training with Bristol City, managed by former Keepmoat chief Sean O’Driscoll.

The injury-plagued Scot has also been invited to join up with Ipswich Town for the close-season, with a view to proving his fitness and potentially earning a deal.

York City are still waiting for an answer back from former loan player, left-back Evan Horwood, on whether he wants to join the club on a permanent basis following his release from Hartlepool United.
