In their first encounter this season Cross Gates Lions came off second best against Chapeltown.

Cross Gates took the lead in the seventh minute with a well taken free kick by Brett Rose from 25 yards out.

Chapeltown responded quickly though, their first goal, a fine header at the far post, from a cross which Cross Gates should have prevented being floated in.

This was followed rapidly by a second, Chapeltown seizing on a mistake by the Cross Gates defence, to run through on goal.

By half time Chapeltown had shaken Cross Gates with two further goals.

In the second half Cross Gates had steadied slightly but were still fortunate that Chapeltown did not capitlize on some good chances.

But Cross Gates too had their chances at the other end with Joe Bilbey hitting the post and seeing another effort go just wide.

Chapeltown were also unfortunate to have a goal disallowed due to an offside decision.

In the last minute of added time Cross Gates pulled one back through

Joe Bilbey with a knock in from a corner but it was too little too late.

Chapeltown had the edge over Cross Gates in teamwork and passing and deserved the three points.
