Featherstone Rovers: Talented pair catch Daryl's eye

Trialist forwards Ben Mawson and Cayci Pearson caught coach Daryl Powell's eye in Featherstone Rovers' 36-22 win over Gateshead Thunder.

Powell reported: "We had a mixture of reserves, five first-grade squad members and some trialists.

"We were outstanding in the first half, we were 30-0 up at half-time,

but then made quite a few changes and brought the experience off and Gateshead played well and came back at us.

"The trialists did okay and I thought Mawson and Pearson played very well."

Mawson is a former Castleford Lock Lane amateur, who has played in the academy at Hull and Castleford Tigers. Pearson has played amateur rugby for Elland. Of the rest of his side, Powell added: "Ryan Gaunt was good at seven, he controlled the game, particularly in the first half.

"Greg Worthington got an opportunity at six, which gives us some options, Ross Divorty had a good game and Bryn Powell was outstanding,

as you'd expect.

"It was a good hit-out for us."

Powell plans to field a "similar sort of team" in Saturday's home game

against Oldham.
