Double heartache for Owls in final
It was a case of so near yet so far for Oakwood Owls in the finals of a prestigious five a-side tournament.
The club's under-18s team were edged out 4-3 against Ramgharia Centre Young Guns in the Youth Service Challenge Cup five-a-side tournament held at Soccer City.
And the club's under-15 squad also narrowly missed out going down 3-1 in the final to Leeds Youth.
Both teams powered their way to the final. The under 18s won all eight of their group stage matches scoring 38 goals and
conceding just five and winning their semi final 10-0 against Pythons
The under 15s also remained unbeaten in the group stages and reached the final courtesy of an 8-1 victory over Thorp Boys.
Rod Christopher, of Oakwood Owls, said: "The Owls group are really coming on well together & a lot of new relationships are being formed by the week.
"We've had huge success both on & off the pitch over the past 3 years with our young people becoming involved in a number of very educational & worthwhile projects together.
"We are not about winning matches & tournaments, moreso about being together as one & planning football related provisions as a group, regardless of race or playing ablility.
"We win, lose & draw together, without any individual blame."
