Competition: Garforth Junior League U-14

After last week's cup tie, Cross Gates Lions returned to the league this weekend travelling away to Beeston. The first half ended 0-0 with both sides having equal chances at either end.

Ten minutes after the break though Beeston broke the deadlock with a shot from inside the penalty area on the right. Ten minutes later they struck again, keeper Michael Brown pulled off a spectacular close range save only to see the rebound pounced on by a Beeston player.

Shortly afterwards Brett Rose, for Cross Gates Lions, after beating two players, fired a shot from the edge of box and pulled one back for the Lions putting them back in the game.

In the final minutes Cross Gates piled the pressure on Beeston and with five minutes to go Alexander Elwen latched onto a cross from Trevor Waldron and volleyed the ball into the Beeston net, only to be ruled offside and the goal disallowed.

The game remained at 2-1 leaving Cross Gates to rue the chances they had missed. Man-of-the-match was Luke Watson for his tireless running on the right wing.

Cross Gates Lions squad: Michael Brown (GK), Alexander Elwen (c), Joe Bilbey, Jake McKenna, Josh Shaw, Andrew Battye, Trevor Waldron, Luke Watson, Martin brown, Ashley Hullock, Brett Rose, Mathew Bland, Jake Burns, Guy Hunter.
