Cross Gates Lions face tough test in local derby
Cross Gates Lions face what could be their toughest match of the season so far when they meet Colton Juniors in the U-14s Challenge Cup this weekend. Read big match preview here.
The match comes after a serious loss of form by the Lions which saw them go down heavily with 10-0 and 12-0 defeats against Kirkthorpe Cougars and Ossett Albion and left the team devastated.
Coach Mark Elwen said: "Obviously I and and the lads are extremely disappointed at recent results especially after an encouraging start to the season. The match on Sunday is against a side two divisions above us, we urgently need to find a return to form and restore morale and confidence."
Mark admits it is a tough challenge but all he can ask of the team is that they do their best. He added, "This will be a true test of their character and determination. Whatever the result each player needs to come off the park knowing they have given 100 per cent.
"Nevertheless we are not going into the match with a defeatist attitude, if I know my lads every one will be wanting to be in the line up for Sunday to give it their best shot."
The match kicks off at 10.30am on Sunday, October 21, at Colton's home pitch at Temple Newsam.
