Upwardly Collingham aim to prove a point
COLLINGHAM skipper Toby Jacklin has praised his side's desire to battle against adversity after yet another win to move them away from the Aire-Wharfe first division drop zone.
Deducted 26 points for fielding an unregistered player, Collingham plunged from a title charge into a relegation dogfight a few weeks ago.
But back-to-back victories have seen them steer clear of the bottom two and move back up the table.
At the weekend, Collingham (250-6) snatched five points off Guiseley (153-8) and Jacklin has been pleased with the response from his team during a traumatic time.
"The effect of the points deduction could have gone one of two ways," he said.
"But it has been a way of motivating us.
"We've been consistent all season and we're hoping to earn a moral victory by finishing with a points total that with 26 added to it means we would have won the league.
"I think our relegation fears are gone as it looks like the two teams at the bottom will go down. I think we will finish in mid-table."
Jacklin said that the points loss was due to a clerical error.
"The deduction came about after we found out that one of our lads played one game for Kirkstall last year," he explained.
"We didn't know so we didn't think to register him.
"It was unfortunate but administrative errors happen."
Brian Leigh was Collingham's star performer on Saturday and Jacklin was delighted with both the batsman's and the team's display.
"We played well," he said. "Brian Leigh has been consistent all season and he's also good to watch."
Andrew Doidge claimed 6-33 to help Rawdon to remain top of Division One at the expense of Silsden.
Other heroes were James Pickering (139) and David Morgan (100), who guided Rawdon to 318-4.
Despite Doidge's efforts, Silsden could not be bowled out and held firm on eight wickets to gain a point.
Vivek Mahajan posted 56 to help Silsden to reach 182-8 at the close of play.
Four points behind Rawdon are North Leeds (163-8), after claiming two points at Green Lane (182).
Ishitkhar Hussain was Green Lane's deadly bowler with 5-44.
Beckwithshaw (122-9) maintained their title aspirations with victory over Burley.
James Lilley took 7-50 to help to bowl out Burley for 121 before Shaw claimed the points with a wicket to spare.
Otley, with 178-3, eased past struggling Calverley (176-6).
Dale Tormey (88no) and Matthew O'Grady (35no) made vital contributions in Otley's path to victory.
Elsewhere, Mark (3-29) and Jeff Shires (4-43) bowled Kirkstall Educational out for 155 which enabled Adel (202-8) to take the points.
For Adel, John Stringer hit a half-century.
Thackley (145) held on to top spot in Division Two and they largely have Mhair Ali (9-84) to thank as he almost single-handedly dismissed Harden for 141.
Illingworth (106-2) are still in second place after Bardsey (105) were comfortably seen off by eight wickets.
