Spinner Joshi weaves his magic

SAURABH JOSHI put Budwith in a spin with superb figures of 8-22 as Thorp Arch and Boston Spa prevailed by 104 runs in their York Senior League Division Three clash.

Budwith could only muster a mediocre 90.

Mid-table Thorp had opened with 194-9, with Mike Cole (69) and Ben Bartlett (47) in good nick.

Second-placed Selby (136-1) claimed an impressive nine-wicket success over Duncombe Park (135), courtesy of a stand-out contribution from Matt Swailes, who claimed remarkable figures of 5-7 from eight unplayable overs.

Greg Townend (71no) and Matthew Hoyle (37no) then saw Selby home with an unbroken 103-run stand.

Third-placed Harrogate seconds (150) were frustrated by struggling Pickering seconds (109-9), with Ross Bousfield (45 and 5-38) a star turn for Gate.

Studley Royal are a whopping 59 points clear at the Division One summit, but were denied their ninth win by gritty Bridlington.

Royal opened with 221-8, with the major contributions coming from Rob Nicholson (66), Charlie Scatchard (61) and Steve Walmsley (42).

But Brid' dug deep and reached 211-6 in reply thanks to Ian Winterbottom's 80.

Richard Hooks (5-41) was the star turn for fifth-placed Ripon (104-5), who held sway against lowly Malton and Old Malton (103).

Division Two activity saw Tadcaster Magnet (242-5) have much the better of their draw with Sewerby (151-8), with their leading lights being Rich Cattle (89) and skipper Paul Clark (58).

In Division Four A, basement boys Castleford seconds (89) – who fielded just 10 men – crashed to the side just above them, Civil Service, who opened with 269-5, with Darren Handley (70) and Nick Olney (75) excelling.

Selby seconds (170-7) were too strong for Cawood (168-9), Kevin Rich hitting 55.
