Police cop it as Riaz hits a ton
LAST season's Wetherby League Division Three champions East Keswick look a good bet to win promotion for the second successive year.
They increased their lead in Division Two to 12 points by beating closest rivals Leeds Police.
Sujahat Riaz hit an unbeaten century as Keswick overhauled Police's 190 that included 60 from Mohammed Akram and 49 by David Crang.
Thorner Mexborough's promotion hopes were dented by their second straight defeat at Bilton in Ainsty who were indebted to Henry Burton (84no), Tim Lambert (58), Graham Hutchison (4-30) and his brother Ian (3-46) as they ended a five-match losing run.
Whixley stepped up their challenge when Stuart Whitham (93no), Pat Greenwood (61) and Darren Fearn (4-33) led them to a 62-run win over Old Leos, whose defeat was hard on Chris Huby (67no).
Kippax climbed to fifth with their seventh straight league win after crushing Kirk Hammerton who were skittled for 45 by Muhammed Mirza (5-22) and Scott Harrison (5-22).
Bramhope's slide continued when Oulton's David Flint (4-12) and Hayden Preshaw (4-33) skittled them for 111 for a two-wicket victory.
Division One's top four teams meet on Saturday when Scarcroft visit Shadwell and Old Modernians host Spofforth.
A quick 94 by Simon Ball, who hammered 31 off one over, was the highlight of leaders Scarcroft's 88-run win over bottom side Church Fenton.
Scarcroft are six points clear of Shadwell and Old Modernians who defeated Great Preston and Sicklinghall respectively.
All-rounders Mohammed Tariq (6-29 and 55) and Ryan Hercules (3-39 and 67) were outstanding in Shadwell's 50-run success while Stuart Borrill (4-43) and Shaun Delaney (3-43) set up Modernians' eight-wicket victory by routing Sicklinghall for 119.
The relegation battle hotted up last weekend when Wetherby, Kirk Deighton and Barwick in Elmet all won.
Ian Twitchen (60), Paul Garton (51) and Neil Thomas (3-34) gave Wetherby the edge over Walton.
Kirk Deighton achieved their second straight victory by beating champions Spofforth by 16 runs thanks to Jonathan Cannon (68), Andy Thornhill (43no), Nick Ryder (4-22) and Richard Ward (3-43).
Ian Lawrence (53), Marcus Glenister (46), Simon Taylor (4-37) and Simon Old (3-49) were Spofforth's best performers.
Aussie Tom Geddes struck five sixes in an unbeaten 112 off 85 balls to guide Barwick to a nine-wicket win at St Chad's who were restricted to 147-9 by Ian Jenkins (4-36).
Holders St Chad's host Leeds Police in the Fred Fleetwood Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
The other ties are Wetherby v Great Preston, Oulton v Old Modernians and Barwick in Elmet v Shadwell.
