Now Brophy joins sick list
After a nightmare past week, depleted Yorkshire have landed another bad break.
Wicket-keeper/batsman Gerard Brophy has added to the Tykes' casualty list, with the South African set for a spell on the sidelines after dislocating his thumb in Sunday's Twenty20 final group encounter with Derbyshire Phantoms.
He joins Rana Naved-ul-Husan (hip) on the crocked list, with David Wainwright, who recently split the webbing in his hand, also not yet fit for a first-team return.
The spinner is in second XI action this week, but missed the four-day clash with Somerset at Taunton – which started today – with Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid unavailable due to England commitments.
It promises to be a test of character for Yorkshire, still reeling after a triple whammy of Twenty20 defeats scuppered their qualification hopes.
Urging his troops to dig deep at the scene of the Tykes' last Championship win over a year ago, director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon said: "It's been a disappointing week, which started with us losing the captain Anthony McGrath, which was a big blow to him to miss three games.
"Then there was Rana's injury, when he was our big player in Twenty20 before the break. But we move on. We've got 10 Championship games to play and a Pro40 competition.
"Somerset are going to be a challenge; the rest of the season's going to be and a test of character for everyone.
"It's a time for us now to take stock of who we want for the future and look ahead.
"We've learnt a lot about our players this year; some of it I've been pleased with, some disappointed with."
