Callum and Gurman keep Academy top

VIRTUOSO stuff from Callum Geldart and Gurman Randhawa helped Yorkshire Academy to keep their Yorkshire ECB title bandwagon on course at the expense of Hull.

Free-scoring Geldart dined out on the Hull attack, smashing a belligerent 132 not out in the Academy's bumper score of 301-4, with Gary Balance (65), Charlie Roebuck (43) and S Younes (36no) also pitching in.

Spin king Randhawa then stole the limelight with the ball, taking a stunning 8-49 as Hull were back in the showers for 197, despite the best efforts of Matt Wilkinson (65).

Academy, unbeaten after 12 matches, are 11 points clear of Scarborough, whose home clash with Harrogate was rained off.

Castleford are fifth after lowering the colours of the side just above them – Doncaster – who tasted defeat for the first time since early May.

Cas opened with 160-9, with the side indebted to solid knocks from Gary O'Neil (42) and Chris Young (39).

The Town Moor hosts fell short at 144-9 in reply, with Young's exploits (5-45) turning things the visitors' way.

Champions York are two points adrift of Scarborough – and 13 of the Academy – in third after a convincing eight-wicket success over mid-table hosts Cleethorpes.

The East Coast outfit opened with 229-8 with Bill Wilby hitting 118 not out and Ashley Hulme picking up 3-83 for York.

Replying, the Clifton Park side raced to 232-2, with Simon Mason (112) and Dan Wilson (94) leading the way.
