Garforth Rangers U-15s 2

Colton Juniors U-15s 7

Date: Sunday, September 23

Competition: Leeds & District

On a grey rain threatened Sunday afternoon both Colton and Garforth Rangers looked for their first points of the season.

The game started brightly from a Colton perspective with swift moves coming down both the right and left wings. The first attempt on the Rangers goal was when Ben Craven struck a nice shot straight at the keeper. Rangers struck back with an attack of their own and the game looked liked being an entertaining encounter. George Walker was becoming instrumental in midfield and a neat pass let James Hazelgrave in to make it 1–0 to Colton.

It wasn't too long before Ryan White and Josh Gould neat passing lead to a ball falling to James Hazelgrave and his header nestled in the corner of the Rangers net and it was 2–0 to Colton.

The Colton subs of 'super' Sam Parker, Sam Bateman & Harrison Brazier all warmed up on the sidelines as a further sweeping move by Colton lead to a near miss by Ryan White. Yet another Rangers attack was snubbed out by a towering header by the Colton captain Sam Rudd. Colton were playing top draw football whilst Rangers passes were going astray. A surging run down the left by James Green resulted in a crossed ball and yet another goal with a neat finish being applied by Ben Craven. 3–0 to Colton now and it was still midway through the first half.

As the sun broke through the clouds the warmth seemed to spur Colton on and that continued pressure lead to a number of goal line clearances by Rangers. One of those clearances resulted in the ball moving quickly forward to the Rangers captain and he struck a shot home to make it 3–1 on the stroke of half time.

The second half started well from a Colton perspective as the Rangers midfield passing resembled more of a dogs breakfast than concise passing. Successive strikes from Matthew Young and Ben Craven lead to an ever increasing number of attempts on the Rangers goal and in the 44th minute James Green struck with a superb shot making it 4-1. As five horses passed the perimeter of the pitch it was becoming reminiscent of a canter for an impressive Colton side.

With the ever improving Ronan Whittle being swapped with Sam Parker the change seemed to spur Colton on and a Dalton Fotherby deft chip lead to a score of 5-1. This was quickly followed by another surging run and finish by James Green and a score line of 6-1. Further good attacking moves down both wings helped Colton to apply more pressure and yet another goal by the lively James Hazelgrave. That was James' hat trick and Colton were in the ascendancy.

A late flourish by Rangers lead to a number of neat saves by the Colton keeper Adam Hamblett but finally a rash tackle lead to a Rangers penalty. Whilst the keeper made a good effort to save the ball it landed in the back of net and a final score of 7–2 and a good day at the office for an impressive Colton.

Next weekend Colton play at home to Seacroft WMC Colts.
