Chapletown U-15s 1
Date: Sunday, September 16
Competition: Leeds & District U-15
On a clear but very breezy Sunday afternoon Colton played there first home game of the season against Chapletown FYDC at Temple Newsam.
A group of 30+ local spectators turning up in anticipation of seeing what Colton could do against the team that had taken last year's Division 3 by storm.
The yellow & green of Colton made a perfect contrast to the Red of Chapletown and the game set off brightly.
Colton played with the wind behind them in the first half hoping that they could take advantage of a strong wind.
The first ten minutes saw a lot of midfield skirmishes and it was n't until just after the 10 minute mark a swift left wing move by Colton resulted in Ben Craven crossing in a left wing curler for the Colton attack. It came to nothing but had provided the first serious attempt on goal. Chapletown struck back with a good move of their own. This resulted in a disallowed goal for off side.
Colton then applied further pressure and 2 successive free kicks resulted in going close to scoring. Half time arrived with a 0–0 score line.
The second half saw Colton facing the strong wind and Chapletown took full advantage by putting Adam Hamblett and the Colton defence under pressure. This brought out a great save from the keeper and this was after having very little to do in the first half.
Colton managed to apply more pressure on the Chapletown defence with Josh Gould, 'Blondie', - aka George Walke - and the Colton attack making good runs.
The game seemed to be fairly well balanced and it was with about 10 minutes to go that Chapletown struck. An over the top ball missing a well organised Colton defence resulting in the Colton goal being breeched. 1-0 to Chapletown.
The last few minutes resulted in a number of midfield battles, none of which resulted in an attempt on the Chapletown goal thus the score remained 0-1 to Chapletown.
There is further work to be done from a Colton perspective.
All in all a well balanced game that went the way of the visitors on the day with the wind acting as a twelfth man. Thanks go to the over worked ball boys of Paul Tyas and Bob Gould. The strong wind kept the elderly ball boys well exercised.
Next weekend Colton travel to Garforth Rangers for a local derby.
Squad: Adam Hamblett, Sam Bateman, Sam Rudd, Dalton Fotherby, Lewis Tyas, Josh Gould, Ryan White, George Walker, Ben Craven, James Green, James Hazelgrave, Ronan Whittle, Harrison Brazier, Matthew Young & Sam Parker.
