Bramley Phoenix U-15s 1
Colton Juniors U-15s 9
Date: Sunday 4th November 2007
Competition: Leeds & District
With the Indian summer continuing well into November Colton travelled to west Leeds with a mid day kick off against the under achievers of Bramley Phoenix.
A good performance and a positive result would see Colton cementing the position just behind the leading two in the division at this half way stage of the season.
The weather was perfect for football, and albeit a bit unnerving as a local police presence continued to investigate a serious incident close to the pitch, but Colton set off at a right old pace. The midfield duo of George Walker and Ryan Brogdan starting the first attack on goal with good interplay. The resulting corner taken by Ronan Whittle being headed home by James Green for the first goal of the game and 1 – 0 to Colton. George Walker then hit the Bramley post shortly after and it was all Colton. Bramley then replied with an equaliser in the 10th minute. This followed a free kick just outside the area. 1-1 and the game was on.
Colton then applied further pressure and had a succession of corners. By the time the sixth corner came along the pressure told and Bramley conceded a 2nd as Josh Gould finished well. 2 -1. Bramley then fought back and Adam Hamblett saved well at the feet of the centre forward. Rob 'the cat'Hamblett then decided a substitution was required and added Matt Young to the field of play. This was quickly followed by a third goal for Colton and second of the match for Josh Gould. 3 -1 and Colton were running the show. Just before half time Ronan Whittle, Ben Craven & George Walker all went very close.
Half-time score of 3 -1 to Colton and the referee, Nigel the trainer, was referring the game with ease. When a referee is practically invisible during a game you know they've had a good game!.
Colton then applied further pressure as the second half started and Dalton Fotherby went very close to adding to the score with a blistering free kick.
It wasn't very long before the next goal arrived and it was a neat header from George Walker that set up James Hazelgrave to finish with aplomb. 4 -1.
The game then restarted and a good midfield move lead to James Green netting to make it 5 -1. The Colton defence of Sam Rudd, Sam Bateman, Lewis Tyas and Matt Young were commanding the game and continued to setup the midfield and forwards.
Dalton Fotherby then stepped up to make it 6 – 1 with a great header well passed the keeper.
Bramley then had a push of their own and had it not been for an excellent goal line clearance from Sam Bateman, they would have increased their score.
That was a little flourish that did n't last very long and two excellent strikes by James Green then made the score 7 -1 then 8 -1 and a second successive week hat trick for the skilful centre forward.
Colton continued to play great football with George Walker and Sam Rudd both hitting the Bramley wood work with terrific efforts. Josh Gould wasn't to be out done on the hat-trick front as he finished yet another free flowing Colton move and a score line of 9 -1.
Colton continue to improve week by week and their free flowing football, good work ethic and decisive finishing add up to a great team to watch.
Next weekend Colton are at home to Rothwell.
