With Colton in second place and Gildersome in mid-table the prospect of a good game looked a cert.

The game got off to a very good start with Colton having the better of the early exchanges. The midfield duo of George Walker and Ryan White started well and looked to set the flying wingers of James Green and Josh Gould on the Gildersome defence.

The first attempt on goal came in the 5 minute and it was Colton pressing hard with a shot past the Gildersome goal after good work by Ryan Brogdan. Neat interchanges in midfield resulted in James Hazelgrave and Josh Gould putting further pressure on Gildersome and it wasn't long before James Green scored the first on 20 minutes with a neat left foot shot.

1-0 to Colton and the Gildersome were in a game. Gildersome then pressed hard and a quick move through the middle resulted in an s near miss by Adam Hamblett's left hand post.

Just as Gildersome looked to be getting back in the game it was a very good tackle by Sam Bateman that lead to a great pass from George Walker and a goal for James Hazelgrave. 2-0 to Colton with 25 minutes gone. Shortly after that it was 3-0 with tough tackling Ryan White passing to Josh Gould who made an opening for George Walker and his fourth goal of the season.

As the tussles in midfield continued to fly in by the Gildersome number's sevenm and nine, it was the commanding presence of Sam Rudd and Dalton Fotherby that headed everything that moved and that rear guard action lead to the fourth and fifth goals right on the stroke of half time. James Green running down the wing and sliding a left foot shot past the Gildersome keeper to make it 4-0 and then Ryan Brogdan striking the fifth right on the stroke of half time. 5-0 to Colton.

As the half time team talk by Rob 'the Cat' Hamblett resounded across the Temple Newsam pitches, you had a feeling that Colton still had more to prove and that point was being made forcibly. With the support of Steve Wheeler and Tony Walker, both members and Colton Juniors Football Club Management, you could see that the team spirit across the age groups still exists.

The second half began well for Colton as Dalton Fotherby headed in to make it 6-0 on 52 minutes. Colton were running the show now and Harrison Brazier made a swift challenge to avert a Gildersome attack. With all the play being in the Gildersome area Adam Hamblett had to be switched on to any Gildersome attacks. That proved the case when Gildersome nearly scored but for a good save by Adam on his near post.

As Rob 'the cat' Hamblet and Nige the trainer strolled up and down the touch line offering words of wisdom, you could see Colton grow in stature. At one point the game did go quiet and 'Rob the Cat' was heard to ask 'why are we so quiet? – remembrance Sunday's in November not February' that then resulted in the only change of the day for Colton, with Matt Young coming on for Harrison Brazier.

With Josh Gould firing in excellent corners at every opportunity the pressure was on Gildersome every time. It was n't long before great midfield play lead to a pass finding James Green on the left wing who took one touch and fired in a half volley to make it yet another hat trick and 7-0 to Colton.. Gildersome then made a quick response and picked up a solitary goal. 7-1 and the game was over now.

Colton had put Gildersome to the sword and are beginning to show an ominous steel throughout the team. That will strike fear across the rest of the 2nd Division.

With goals coming from all areas of the park and players like Sam Bateman, Josh Gould and Ryan Brogdan ever improving and supporting the strong defensive pairing of Sam Rudd and Dalton Fotherby you never know where the next goal will spring from at Colton under 15's.

Next weekend sees Colton travel to Bramley Juniors.

Squad: Adam Hamblett, Sam Bateman, Sam Rudd, Dalton Fotherby, Lewis Tyas, Josh Gould, Ryan White, George Walker, James Green, James Hazelgrave, Harrison Brazier, Matthew Young & Sam Parker.
