Brian Hindley, manager of the Soccer Tots, stressed the importance of the children having fun without any pressure at the fun day.

He said: "We try to teach them the basics, but you have to keep things fun, otherwise they will lose interest and not enjoy what they're doing.

"The fun day is a great opportunity for them to develop their skills while still keeping their interest and sense of enjoyment."

The number of children wanting to get involved has rapidly grown since the team was founded a year ago, and the club is urging parents to volunteer to get involved with the coaching aspects.

"We started out with nine or 10 children turning up for training, but nowadays we average around 35 children who come down with their parents. We like to get their parents involved in the coaching aspect as well. The club have offered to put them through the coaching course as well."

The Soccer Tots train every Sunday from 10-11am on Temple Newsam Park.
