Century stand helps New Farnley CC 2nds

New Farnley 2nds took four points from their meeting with Adwalton on Saturday in an excellent display of batting.

Put into bat first on another green damp wicket it looked like it was going to be tough going when Ash Kearsley lost his wicket, bowled for a duck with the opening bowlers looking tight.

A stand of 114 between Ben Moody (56) and Michael Royce (80) then put Farnley into a great position with loads of overs to go.

It was a great display of class batting with great shot selections and aggressive intent and we can look forward to more runs from these lads.

Bobo was promoted to bat at number four looking to accelerate the run rate and he soon had 24 runs to his name before he was run out. The innings lost a little pace but NF closed on 217 for 5.

Adwalton never got anywhere near the required run rate in reply, excellent tight bowling and fielding from NF restricting them to 164 for 6. Andrew Simpson (2-25) and Gary Beaumont (2-27) were the pick of the bowlers. Young Joel Rothery was also very tidy, recording figures of 8-2-28-1.

Making his first appearance with the gloves, Jack Irwin made a promising start behind the wickets. Showing some quick hands whilst stood up to the bowlers, Farnley might just have found an answer to the wicket keeping position.

Though the byes may have been a little high the extra pressure of a keeper stood up puts restrictions on opposing batsman and the Adwalton team commented on how sharp he looked.

Keep up the good work lads – This could be our year!
