Steve Milton and Brian Thompson saw off a brave challenge from Dave Norris and John Stocks to clinch the Alister Senton 50+ Pairs title.

After narrowly beating Ian Howard and Lynda Heath 21-20 in the semi-final, Milton and Thompson, pictured right, took control of the final, leading 11-4 after seven ends. However, by the 18th end, Norris and Stocks trailed 16-14.

Milton and Thompson then gained four shots over the next three ends to lead 20-14 before their opponents picked up one shot at the next end to trail 20-15. At the following end with Milton and Thompson lying game, Norris killed the end by hitting the jack off the green.

At the last end, Norris and Stocks looked like picking up one shot but once again, as he did in the semi-final, Thompson bowled one in to take the game 21-15. To get to the final, Norris and Stocks beat Michael Firth and Martin Lally 21-18 in the semi-final.

Next Sunday, the Saturday Merit final (The Gordon Monk Trophy) will take place at Rothwell Bowling Club.

The entry fee is £10 and the scratch time 10am. The event is sponsored by Gordon Monk.
