Batley Bulldogs: Mennell injury worry

Stand-off Paul Mennell is Batley Bulldogs' main concern with less than two weeks to go before they begin their Northern Rail Cup title defence.

Mennell was hurt during the 42-22 pre-season defeat at Castleford Tigers two days ago.

Coach Karl Harrison said: "He got a bad dead leg in the first 10 minutes.

"But we have got nearly a fortnight before our first game, so we've a chance of getting him back on board."

The defeat at Cas was Bulldogs' only setback in four trial games and Harrison added: "We have had a pretty good pre-season and we've come through it more or less unscathed.

"We played very well on Sunday. They only pulled clear when I made a lot of changes in the final 20 minutes.

Prolific try-scoring winger/full-back Johnny Campbell played as a trialist against Cas. Harrison said he has been training with Bulldogs for two weeks, pending a court appearance.
